About the Swiss Water Decaf Process
The Swiss Water Process is environmentally friendly, chemical-free, and 99.9% caffeine-free, whilst having great taste.
At Swiss Water, they use water from the coast mountains of British Columbia to gently remove the caffeine until the coffee beans are 99.9% caffeine-free while maintaining the bean's distinctive origin and flavour characteristics.
If the decaf you’re consuming has the Swiss Water logo on it, you can be sure that no chemicals were used to remove the caffeine from the coffee.
Cupping Notes
A seasonally sourced blend of South & Central American beans, medium roasted to produce a smooth and versatile coffee with dark chocolate tones, balanced acidity and bright floral aromas. 100% Organic Arabica Coffee. Swiss Water Process Decaffeinated Coffee. Strength 3.
Note 1: This decaffeinated coffee is Fairtrade, Organic and Swiss Water Decaf Process, but it is not certified Shade Grown or Bird Friendly. That's because it doesn't exist yet and hope that, as we grow, we will have the kind of demand to request the Swiss Water Decaf people to decaf a batch for us (the quantities are enormous to decaffeinate coffee!)
Note 2: All decaf looks like it's been darker roasted because the raw green beans are paler after the Swiss Water Process. This decaffeinated coffee is medium roasted.

Bird & Wild only roasts seasonal coffee certified as Bird-Friendly and shade-grown by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Centre & contributes to support their research and conservation programs.
Our coffees are naturally grown under the rainforest canopy, a haven for birds and other wildlife & ideal conditions for nurturing deliciously different beans with a taste of the wild.
In the shade of tropical highland agroforestry systems, where the coffee shrubs grow beneath a diverse canopy of shade trees, coffee is allowed to develop complex, distinctive and smooth flavours.
Bird Friendly Certified coffees are grown on forest farms that protect the diverse tree canopy, providing a haven to threatened migratory birds, insects and other wildlife.

Coffee Preparation
Use fresh water for boiling. Once boiled, let the kettle cool for a few minutes, since boiling water burns the coffee. It is always best to put too much coffee in than too little. You can always dilute the coffee if it is too strong. A rough guide is 12 grams of coffee for every 180ml of water.

Keep your coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dark, dry place. It is that simple. Preferably use within 3 weeks.

This bird-friendly is the best decaffinated coffee I have tried, better than I can by in coffee shops too. It smells great and has a rich chocolaty flavour, and does brilliant work for the environment it is grown in and for the RSPB.
We love the decaff, it's smooth and chocolatey and we can drink it when we like, knowing we are giving a little something to the birds.
Love these decaff beans, and that's why we keep coming back to them. We drink it pretty much every day and never get anything else because it's our favourite. Very rich and flavoursome: it drinks with much the same satisfaction and body as full-caff. And the online shop is always very convenient and reliable. Really delicious. I usually order the espresso beans, but my husband is trying to improve his sleep, so we tried the decaf. It's the best decaf I've ever tasted. People always say, "You won't know the difference." This is the first time I really couldn't tell. And perfect al fresco on a sunny morning.

I love that Bird & Wild is ethical on every level - particularly that its coffee is shade-grown. I also love the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee, but wouldn't feel happy drinking anything that was contributing to biodiversity loss. Plus Bird & Wild tastes fab.

Ordered the Swiss water decaf to try and we weren’t disappointed. It hadn’t lost any strength and tastes delicious. Love the fact it is bird friendly and donations are made to the RSPB. Delivery was quick and product well packaged. Our cappuccinos are made with Oat Drink. So lovely relax at home with good quality coffee.

What Bird&Wild and the RSPB have done is SO IMPORTANT. It's not just great tasting coffee - they're helping to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. By taking coffee plants back into the forest, where they belong, they are restoring an ecosystem that absorbs tonnes of carbon. The birds, animals and plants that benefit keep that ecosystem alive and healthy. Food and drink has the bigger impact on emissions and ecological breakdown than any other sector - when we include our imports!
